Happy Birthday

We had a double dose of birthday fun today as there were two special birthdays at Susan's today.  Thank you to the birthday boys' mother for bringing the scrumptious cake.  We thoroughly enjoyed it!!  Happy Birthday boys!! :)

Little Suns

The weather last week and at the beginning of this week wasn't very nice.  It was cold, wet and just generally "icky".  So this week at Susan's we took on the task to will away the rain clouds and bring on the sun.  We did this with some "sunny" craft activities.  By the middle of the week the sun was shining and the temperatures soared!!  We'd like to take credit for this with our beautiful, little suns. :)

Bejewelled Flowers

Even though we've had freezing temperatures this week (and a bit of snow!!) our theme at Susan's has been flowers!  Susan LOVES flowers and has many outside her home for the children to view and talk to (all plants grow better when they are conversed with - or so she says).  One of our fun floral crafts was using jewels, buttons and beads to create beautiful flowers.  It was fun to use these tools!!

We LOVE to read!!

There are tons of books at Susan's which allows the children a variety of reading materials for their personal enjoyment.  There are numerous times throughout the day when children will explore stories to their hearts content.  It's wonderful to see their excitement in ASKING to read books!!

Sunflower Art

Using tissue paper and real sunflower seeds, the children created their own sunflowers today.  They did a beautiful job and thoroughly enjoyed using the sunflower seeds for the center of their art along with rolling tissue paper into little balls in order to create the petals, stem and leaves.

Baby Robins

To our surprise, a robin chose to build a nest on one of the awnings at Susan's house.  A weird spot? We think so.  Nevertheless, knowing that this nest was there, we were curious to know if there were eggs waiting to be hatched in it.  Low and behold, we found out last week that there were!  We have been able to see first their beaks and now their heads peaking out of the nest for the world to see.  It has been very educational to see their development and we can't wait for them to leave their nest and explore the world!

Little Builders

Susan has many different types of building tools for children to use (Lego, Mega-Blocks, snap tiles, etc.).  They LOVE making wonderful creations using their imaginations.  Today some of our makings included a gas station and pens for rambunctious dinosaurs.

Party Like A Bug

Today we had a "bug party" at Susan's.  We made special bug hats (some of us were bumblebees, some were ladybugs, some were dragonflies and others were caterpillars) and enjoyed a worm treat.  There were also songs and fun dances where we acted like bugs.  It was a great day!!

Finding Bugs

While they've been playing outside, the children have noticed bugs in their environment (science exploration occurring!).  They've taken to getting a close look at these bugs (ladybugs and earthworms) then letting them go again to be free in their natural environment.  The children have been very good at looking with gentle hands and eyes.

Bug Crafts

This week is "Bug Week" at Susan's so the children are up to their elbows in various bug themed art activities/crafts.  So far caterpillars and earthworms have graced our premises. Creepy Crawly Fun!! :)
